The Bible in Its Traditions

Sirach 35:1–13

V
G

Whoever observes the law multiplies oblations.

Sir35:Sir32:1  He that keepeth the law bringeth offerings enough: he that taketh heed to the commandment offereth a peace offering.

V

It is a salutary sacrifice to attend to the commandments and to withdraw from all iniquity.

And to depart from injustice is to offer a propitiatory sacrifice for injustices and a supplication for sins.

G

Whoever gives thanks, offers a gift of fine flour, and whoever acts with mercy, offers a sacrifice.

Sir35:Sir32:2  He that requiteth a good turn offereth fine flour; and he that giveth alms sacrificeth praise.

To withdraw from iniquity is well-pleasing to the Lord. And to withdraw from injustice is a supplication for sins.

Sir35:Sir32:3  To depart from wickedness is a thing pleasing to the Lord; and to forsake unrighteousness is a propitiation.

You should not appear empty before the sight of the Lord.

Sir35:Sir32:4  Thou shalt not appear empty before the Lord.

V G

For all these things are to be done because of the commandment of God.

The oblation of the just fattens the altar, and is a fragrance of sweetness in the sight of the Most High.

Sir35:Sir32:6  The offering of the righteous maketh the altar fat, and the sweet savour thereof is before the most High.

V G

The sacrifice of the just is acceptable, and the Lord will never forget the memorial of it.
