1 A Psalm of David. Maschil. Happy is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is pardoned.
1 The understanding of David himself. Blessed are they whose iniquities have been forgiven and whose sins have been covered.
1 BLESSED is he whose transgression is forgiven and whose sin is blotted out.
2 Happy is the man unto whom YHWH counteth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
2 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin, and whose mouth there is no guile.
3 When I kept silence, my bones wore away through my groaning all the day long.
3 Because I kept silence, my bones waxed old, from my crying all the day.
4 For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me; my sap was turned as in the droughts of summer. Selah
4 For, day and night, your hand was heavy upon me. I have been converted in my anguish, while still the thorn is piercing.
5 I acknowledged my sin unto Thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid; I said: 'I will make confession concerning my transgressions unto YHWH'--and Thou, Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah
5 I have acknowledged my offense to you, and I have not concealed my injustice. I said, “I will confess against myself, my injustice to the Lord,” and you forgave the impiety of my sin.
6 For this let every one that is godly pray unto Thee in a time when Thou mayest be found; surely, when the great waters overflow, they will not reach unto him.
6 Therefore shall every holy one pray to thee in a fit time: only in the deluge of many waters they shall not come nigh to him.
6 For this, everyone who is holy will pray to you in due time. Yet truly, in a flood of many waters, they will not draw near to him.
7 Thou art my hiding-place; Thou wilt preserve me from the adversary; with songs of deliverance Thou wilt compass me about. Selah
7 You are my refuge from the tribulation that has surrounded me. You are my exultation: rescue me from those who are surrounding me.
8 'I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will give counsel, Mine eye being upon thee.'
8 I will give you understanding, and I will instruct you in this way, in which you will walk. I will fix my eyes upon you.
8 I have made you to understand and have led you on the way which you shall take; I will follow you with my eyes.
9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding; whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, that they come not near unto thee.
9 Do not become like the horse and the mule, which have no understanding. Their jaws are constrained with bit and bridle, so as not to draw near to you.
9 Be not as the horse or as the mule, which have no understanding, which must be subdued with bit and bridle from their youth; no one goes near them.
10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked; but he that trusteth in YHWH, mercy compasseth him about.
10 The wicked has many sorrows; but he that trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him.
11 Be glad in YHWH, and rejoice, ye righteous; and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
11 Rejoice in the Lord and exult, you just ones, and glory, all you upright of heart.
