1 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved and fellow worker,
2 to Apphia the beloved, and to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church at your house
2 and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house
2 And to our beloved ApÆphi-a and ArchipÆpus our fellow-labourer, and to the congregation in your house
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and YHWH Jesus Christ.
3 Grace be with you, and peace, from God our Father and our LORD Jesus Christ.
4 I thank my God, always making mention of you in my prayers,
4 I give thanks to my God, always keeping remembrance of you in my prayers,
5 hearing of your love and faith which you have toward YHWH Jesus and toward all the saints,
5 (for I am hearing of your charity and faith, which you have in the Lord Jesus and with all the saints)
5 Since I have heard of your faith and love, which you have toward our LORD Jesus, and toward all saints;
6 that the sharing of your faith may become effective in full knowledge of every good thing which is in us in Christ Jesus.
6 so that the participation of your faith may become evident by the recognition of every good work which is in you in Christ Jesus.
6 That the participation of your faith may bear fruits in works, and in knowledge of everything that is good which you have in Jesus Christ.
7 For we have much thanksgiving and encouragement over your love, because the affections of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
7 For I had much joy and comfort in thy love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother.
7 For we have great joy and consolation in your love, and the hearts of the saints are refreshed.
8 Therefore, having much boldness in Christ to command you what is fitting,
8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
9 rather on account of love I appeal to you-being such a one as Paul, the elder, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ-
10 I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment,
10 I beseech thee for my child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, Onesimus,
10 I beg you, on behalf of my son, whom I have begotten in my chains, Onesimus.
11 who formerly was unprofitable to you, but now is profitable both to you and to me,
11 In times past, he was useless to you, but now he is useful both to me and to you.
11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me
12 whom I am sending back. You therefore receive him, that is, my very heart;
12 So I have sent him back to you. And may you receive him like my own heart.
12 I send him to you again: welcome him as my own boy
13 whom I wished to keep with myself, in order that on your behalf he might serve me in the bonds of the gospel.
13 I myself wanted to retain him with me, so that he might minister to me, on your behalf, while I am in the chains of the Gospel.
13 For I would have kept him with me to minister to me in your place during my imprisonment for the gospel
14 But I wished to do nothing without your consent, in order that your good might not be by necessity, but by [being] voluntary.
14 but without thy mind I would do nothing; that thy goodness should not be as of necessity, but of free will.
14 But I was willing to do nothing without your counsel, so as not to make use of your good deed as if out of necessity, but only willingly.
15 For perhaps he was taken away for a time on account of this, in order that you might keep him eternally,
15 Perhaps this was the reason why he left you for a while, that you can now engage him for ever;
15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
16 no longer as a slave but more than a slave-a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in YHWH.
16 Henceforth not as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, and much more to you, both in the flesh and in our LORD.
16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
17 If then you count me as a partner, receive him as [you would ]me.
17 Therefore, if you hold me to be a companion, receive him as you would me.
17 Now, therefore, if you still count me a partner, welcome him as you would me.
18 But if he has wronged you or owes [anything], charge this to me.
18 But if he hath wronged the at all, or oweth [thee] aught, put that to mine account;
18 And if he has caused you any loss, or if he owes you anything, put it on my account
19 I, Paul, am writing with my own hand. I will repay-lest I say to you that even yourself you owe to me!
19 I Paul write it with mine own hand, I will repay it: that I say not unto thee that thou owest to me even thine own self besides.
19 I, Paul, have written this with my own hand: I will repay. And I need not tell you, that you are also in debt yourself, to me.
20 Yes, brother, may I have profit from you in YHWH; refresh my heart in the Lord.
21 Having been persuaded of your obedience, I am writing to you, knowing that you will do even beyond what I say.
21 Having confidence in thine obedience I write unto thee, knowing that thou wilt do even beyond what I say.
22 But meanwhile, also prepare for me a guestroom, for I hope that through your prayers I will be graciously given to you.
22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I hope that through your prayers I shall be granted unto you.
22 In addition to all this, prepare me a lodging; for I hope that through your prayers I shall be spared to come to you.
23 Epaphras, my fellow captive in Christ Jesus, greets you,
23 Greet Epaphras, my fellow captive in Christ Jesus,
23 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
24 [ as do] Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow workers.
24 and Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my helpers.
24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
