1 Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gadarenes.
1 And they came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.
2 And when He got out of the boat, immediately there met Him from the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
2 And as he was departing from the boat, he was immediately met, from among the tombs, by a man with an unclean spirit,
2 And as he went out of the boat, he was met by a man from the cemetery, who had an unclean spirit.
3 who had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one could bind him, not even with chains,
3 He lived in the cemetery, and no man could bind him in chains;
4 because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the shackles had been broken, and no one was able to subdue him.
4 For having been bound often with shackles and chains, he had broken the chains and smashed the shackles; and no one had been able to tame him.
4 Because whenever he was bound with fetters and chains, he broke the chains and cut the fetters, and no man could control him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and bruising himself with stones.
6 But seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran and worshipped Him,
6 And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped him;
6 And seeing Jesus from afar, he ran and adored him.
7 and crying out with a great voice he said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God, do not torment me!"
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For He was saying to him, "Come out from the man, unclean spirit!"
8 For he said unto him, Come forth, thou unclean spirit, out of the man.
9 And He was asking him, "What is your name?"And he answered, saying, "My name is Legion; for we are many."
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he saith unto him, My name is Legion; for we are many.
10 And he was imploring Him many [times] that He would not send them out of the region.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
10 And he entreated him greatly, so that he would not expel him from the region.
11 Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there near the mountain.
11 And in that place, near the mountain, there was a great herd of swine, feeding.
12 So all the demons implored Him, saying, "Send us into the pigs, that we may enter them."
12 And they besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And immediately Jesus gave them permission. And when the unclean spirits came out, they entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, (there were about two thousand) and drowned in the sea.
14 But those feeding the pigs fled, and they reported it in the city and in the country. And they came out to see what it was that had happened.
14 And those who fed them, fled, and told it in the city and also in the villages. So they went out to see what had happened.
15 Then they came to Jesus, and observed him who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and having been clothed and being of sound mind, and they were afraid.
15 And they come to Jesus, and behold him that was possessed with demons sitting, clothed and in his right mind, [even] him that had the legion: and they were afraid.
15 And they came to Jesus. And they saw the man who had been troubled by the demon, sitting, clothed and with a sane mind, and they were afraid.
16 And those who saw it related to them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the pigs.
16 And they that saw it declared unto them how it befell him that was possessed with demons, and concerning the swine.
17 Then they began to implore Him to go away from their region.
17 And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders.
17 So they began to urge him to leave their border.
18 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed implored Him that he might be with Him.
18 And as he was climbing into the boat, the man who had been troubled by the demons began to beg him, so that he might be with him.
18 As he went up to the boat, the lunatic begged him to remain with him.
19 But Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, "Go home to your own family, and report to them all the things that YHWH has done for you, and how He had compassion on you."
19 And he suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go to thy house unto thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and [how] he had mercy on thee.
19 And he did not permit him, but he said to him, “Go to your own people, in your own house, and announce to them how great are the things that Lord has done for you, and how he has taken pity on you.”
20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all the things Jesus did for him; and all were marveling.
20 And he went his way, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men marvelled.
20 And he went away and began to preach in the Ten Cities, how great were the things that Jesus had done for him. And everyone wondered.
