38 Then He said to them in His teaching, "Take heed of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and [like] greetings in the marketplaces,
38 And in his teaching he said, Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and [to have] salutations in the marketplaces,
38 And he said to them in his doctrine: “Beware of the scribes, who prefer to walk in long robes and to be greeted in the marketplace,
39 and the first seats in the synagogues, and the first couches at the suppers;
39 and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts
39 and to sit in the first chairs in the synagogues, and to have the first seats at feasts,
40 who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense pray at length. These will receive more abundant judgment."
40 they that devour widows` houses, and for a pretence make long prayers; these shall receive greater condemnation.
40 Those who embezzle the property of widows, with the pretense of making long prayers. They shall receive greater judgment.
