1 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he wrote these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying
Jer51:1 THE WORD WHICH JEREMIAS THE PROPHET spoke to Baruch son of Nerias, when he wrote these words in the book from the mouth of Jeremias, in the fourth year of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda.
2 'Thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel, concerning thee, O Baruch: Thou didst say
Jer51:2 Thus has the Lord said to thee, O Baruch.
2 “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to you, Baruch
3 Woe is me now! for YHWH hath added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.
Jer51:3 Whereas thou hast said, Alas! alas! for the Lord has laid a grievous trouble upon me; I lay down in groaning, I found no rest;
3 You have said: ‘Woe to me, a wretched man! For the Lord has added sorrow to my sorrow. I have labored in my groaning, and I have not found rest.’
4 Thus shalt thou say unto him: Thus saith YHWH: Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up; and this in the whole land.
Jer51:4 say thou to him, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I pull down those whom I have built up, and I pluck up those whom I have planted. And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the ninth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon came, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and they made a rampart round it, and built a wall round about it with large stones.
4 Thus says the Lord: So shall you say to him: Behold, those whom I have built up, I destroy, and those whom I have planted, I uproot, even this entire land.
5 And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not; for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith YHWH; but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.'
Jer51:5 And wilt thou seek great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but I will give to thee thy life for a spoil in every place whither thou shalt go. - It was the twenty-first ear of Sedekias, when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Amitaal, the daughter of Jeremias, of Lobena. So the city was besieged, until the eleventh year of king Sedekias,
5 And are you seeking great things for yourself? Do not choose to seek them. For behold, I will lead evil over all that is flesh, says the Lord. But I will give your life to you unto salvation, in every place, wherever you may travel.”
