And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from YHWH, saying

Jer43:1  IN THE FOURTH YEAR OF JOAKIM son of Josias king of Juda, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

And it happened in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah: it happened that this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying

'Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

“Take the volume of a book, and you shall write in it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah, and against all the nations, from the day when I first spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day.

Take a scroll of a book and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and against Judah and against all the nations from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day.

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way, and I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.'

Jer43:3  Perhaps the house of Juda will hear all the evils which I purpose to do to them; that they may turn from their evil way; and so I will be merciful to their iniquities and their sins.

Perhaps it may be that the house of Judah, upon hearing all the evils that I have decided to do to them, may return, each one from his wicked way, and then I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.”

Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of YHWH, which He had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

Jer43:4  So Jeremias called Baruch the son of Nerias: and he wrote from the mouth of Jeremias all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken to him, on a roll of a book.

Therefore, Jeremiah called Baruch, the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote, from the mouth of Jeremiah, all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken to him, in the volume of a book.

And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying: 'I am detained, I cannot go into the house of YHWH;

And Jeremiah instructed Baruch, saying: “I am confined, and so I am unable to enter into the house of the Lord.

therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of YHWH in the ears of the people in the YHWH'S house upon a fast-day; and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

Jer43:6  so thou shalt read in this roll in the ears of the people in the house of the Lord, on the fast day; and in the ears of all Juda that come out of their cities, thou shalt read to them.

Therefore, you shall enter and read from the volume, in which you have written from my mouth the words of the Lord, in the hearing of the people in the house of the Lord on the day of the fast. Moreover, you shall also read them in the hearing of all those of Judah who are arriving from their cities.

It may be they will present their supplication before YHWH, and will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the fury that the YHWH hath pronounced against this people.'

Jer43:7  Peradventure their supplication will come before the Lord, and they will turn from their evil way: for great is the wrath and the anger of the Lord, which he has pronounced against this people.

Perhaps it may happen that they pray in the sight of the Lord, and each one may return from his wicked way. For great is the fury and indignation that the Lord has declared against this people.”

And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of YHWH in the YHWH'S house.

Jer43:8  And Baruch did according to all that Jeremias commanded him—reading in the book the words of the Lord in the Lord’s house.

And Baruch, the son of Neriah, acted in accord with all that Jeremiah, the prophet, had instructed him, reading from the volume the words of the Lord, in the house of the Lord.

Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before YHWH, all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.

Jer43:9  And it came to pass in the eighth year of king Joakim, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem, and the house of Juda, proclaimed a fast before the Lord.

And it happened that, in the fifth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, in the ninth month, they proclaimed a fast, in the sight of the Lord, to all the people in Jerusalem, and to the entire multitude which had flowed together, from the cities of Judah, into Jerusalem.

10  Then did Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of YHWH, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of the YHWH'S house, in the ears of all the people.

11  And when Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of YHWH,

Jer43:11  And Michaeas the son of Gamarias the son of Saphan heard all the words of the Lord, out of the book.

11  When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the LORD from the book,

12  he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber; and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

Jer43:12  And he went down to the king’s house, into the house of the scribe: and, behold, there were sitting there all the princes, Elisama the scribe, and Dalaeas the son of Selemias, and Jonathan the son of Acchobor, and Gamarias the son of Saphan, and Sedekias the son of Ananias, and all the princes.

12  he descended to the house of the king, to the treasury of the scribe. And behold, all the leaders were sitting there: Elishama, the scribe, and Delaiah, the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah, the son of Hananiah, and all the leaders.

13  Then Micaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

Jer43:13  And Michaeas reported to them all the words which he had heard Baruch reading in the ears of the people.

14  Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying: 'Take in thy hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come.' So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

Jer43:14  And all the princes sent to Baruch son of Nerias Judin the son of Nathanias, the son of Selemias, the son of Chusi, saying, Take in thine hand the roll in which thou readest in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch took the roll, and went down to them.

15  And they said unto him: 'Sit down now, and read it in our ears.' So Baruch read it in their ears.

Jer43:15  And they said to him, Read it again in our ears. And Baruch read it.

15  And the princes said to him, Sit down now and read it in our presence; so Baruch read it in their presence.

16  Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said unto Baruch: 'We will surely tell the king of all these words.'

16  Therefore, when they had heard all the words, each one looked at his neighbor in astonishment, and they said to Baruch: “We ought to report all these words to the king.”

17  And they asked Baruch, saying: 'Tell us now: How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?'

17  And they questioned him, saying, “Describe to us how you wrote all these words from his mouth.”

M S

18  Then Baruch answered them: 'He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.'

Jer43:18  And Baruch said, Jeremias told me from his own mouth all these words, and I wrote them in a book.

18  Then Baruch said to them: “He was speaking with his mouth, as if reading to me. And I wrote in a volume with ink.”

19  Then said the princes unto Baruch: 'Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah, and let no man know where ye are.'

Jer43:19  And they said to Baruch, Go, and hide, thou and Jeremias; let no man know where ye are.

19  And the leaders said to Baruch: “Go away and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.”

20  And they went in to the king into the court; but they had deposited the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

20  And they entered to the king, in the court. Furthermore, they stored the volume in the treasury of Elishama, the scribe. And they announced all the words in the hearing of the king.

20  Then the princes went to the king in the courtyard, but they placed the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the presence of the king.

21  So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll; and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes that stood beside the king.

Jer43:21  And the king sent Judin to fetch the roll: and he took it out of the house of Elisama: and Judin read in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood round the king.

21  And the king sent Jehudi to take the volume. And bringing it from the treasury of Elishama, the scribe, he read it in the hearing of the king and of all the leaders who were standing around the king.

22  Now the king was sitting in the winter-house in the ninth month; and the brazier was burning before him.

23  And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four columns, that he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

23  And when Jehudi had read three or four pages, he cut it with a small knife, and he threw it into the fire which was upon the hearth, until the entire volume was consumed by the fire which was upon the hearth.

24  Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

Jer43:24  And the king and his servants that heard all these words sought not the Lord, and rent not their garments.

24  And the king and all his servants, who had heard all these words, were not afraid, and they did not rend their garments.

25  Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had entreated the king not to burn the roll; but he would not hear them.

Jer43:25  But Elnathan and Godolias suggested to the king that he should burn the roll.

25  Yet truly, Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah contradicted the king, so that he might not burn the book. But he did not listen to them.

26  And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but YHWH hid them.

Jer43:26  And the king commanded Jeremeel the king’s son, and Saraeas the son of Esriel, to take Baruch and Jeremias: but they were hidden.

26  And the king instructed Jerahmeel, the son of Amelech, and Seraiah, the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah, the son of Abdeel, so that they would apprehend Baruch, the scribe, and Jeremiah, the prophet. But the Lord concealed them.
