1 The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart, and godly men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
1 See how the just man has perished, and no one lays it to heart: and righteous men are taken away, and no one considers: for the righteous has been removed out of the way of injustice.
2 He entereth into peace, they rest in their beds, each one that walketh in his uprightness.
2 His burial shall be in peace: he has been removed out of the way.
2 And when peace comes, they shall relax, and make progress.
3 But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the harlot.
3 But come here, you sons of the prophetess, you offspring of an adulterous man and a fornicating woman.
4 Against whom do ye sport yourselves? Against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? Are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,
4 Wherein have ye been rioting? and against whom have ye opened your mouth, and against whom have ye loosed your tongue? are ye not children of perdition? a lawless seed?
4 Whom are you mocking? Against whom have you opened your mouth wide and wagged your tongue? Are you not sons of wickedness, a lying offspring,
5 Ye that inflame yourselves among the terebinths, under every leafy tree; that slay the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?
5 who call upon idols under the leafy trees, slaying your children in the valleys among the rocks?
5 who are being consoled by idols under every leafy tree, immolating little children at the torrents, under the high rocks?
6 Among the smooth stones of the valley is thy portion; they, they are thy lot; even to them hast thou poured a drink-offering, thou hast offered a meal-offering. Should I pacify Myself for these things?
6 That is thy portion, this is thy lot: and to them hast thou poured forth drink-offerings, and to these hast thou offered meat-offerings. Shall I not therefore be angry for these things?
6 Your portion is in the currents of the torrent; this is your lot! And you yourselves have poured out libations to them; you have offered sacrifice. Should I not be angry over these things?
7 Upon a high and lofty mountain hast thou set thy bed; thither also wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.
7 On a lofty and high mountain, there is thy bed, and thither thou carriedst up thy meat-offerings
7 Upon high and lofty mountains you have set your bed; even thither you went up to offer sacrifices.
8 And behind the doors and the posts hast thou set up thy symbol; for thou hast uncovered, and art gone up from Me, thou hast enlarged thy bed, and chosen thee of them whose bed thou lovedst, whose hand thou sawest.
8 Behind the doors also and on the posts you have inscribed your remembrance; for you are carried away from me, and you are gone up, and you have enlarged your bed, and you have become one of them; you have loved their bed where you saw their nakedness.
9 And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thine ambassadors far off, even down to the nether-world.
9 and thou hast multiplied thy whoredom with them, and thou hast increased the number of them that are far from thee, and hast sent ambassadors beyond thy borders, and hast been debased even to hell.
9 And you have adorned yourself for the king with ointments, and you have increased your cosmetics. You have sent your representatives to distant places, and you have debased yourself all the way to Hell.
10 Thou wast wearied with the length of thy way; yet saidst thou not: 'There is no hope'; thou didst find a renewal of thy strength, therefore thou wast not affected.
10 You have been wearied by the multitude of your own ways. Yet you did not say, “I will cease.” You have found life by your own hand; because of this, you have not prayed.
10 You are wearied in the multitude of your corrupt ways; yet you did not say, I will cease; you have wasted away yourself with the guilt of your hands, therefore you did not make supplication.
11 And of whom hast thou been afraid and in fear, that thou wouldest fail? And as for Me, thou hast not remembered Me, nor laid it to thy heart. Have not I held My peace even of long time? Therefore thou fearest Me not.
11 Through dread of whom hast thou feared, and lied against me, and has not remembered, nor considered me, nor regarded me, yea, though when I see thee I pass they by, yet thou hast not feared me.
11 For whose sake have you been anxiously afraid, so that you would lie and not be mindful of me, nor consider me in your heart? For I am silent, and I am like someone who does not see, and so you have forgotten me.
12 I will declare thy righteousness; thy works also--they shall not profit thee.
12 And I will declare thy righteousness, and thy sins, which shall not profit thee.
12 I will announce your justice, and your works will not benefit you.
13 When thou criest, let them that thou hast gathered deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away, a breath shall bear them off; but he that taketh refuge in Me shall possess the land, and shall inherit My holy mountain.
13 When you cry out, let your followers free you. But the wind will carry them all away; a breeze will take them up. But he who has faith in me will inherit the earth and will possess my holy mountain.
13 When you cry, let those who gather around you deliver you; but the wind shall carry them all away, and the whirlwind shall take them; but those who put their trust in me shall inherit the land and shall possess my holy mountain;
14 And He will say: cast ye up, cast ye up, clear the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of My people.
14 And I will say: “Make way! Grant passage! Move to the side of the path! Take the obstacles out of the way of my people!”
15 For thus saith the High and Lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
15 Thus saith the Most High, who dwells on high for ever, Holy in the holies, is his name, the Most High resting in the holies, and giving patience to the faint-hearted, and giving life to the broken-hearted
16 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit that enwrappeth itself is from Me, and the souls which I have made.
16 I will not take vengeance on you for ever, neither will I be always angry with you: for my Spirit shall go forth from me, and I have created all breath.
17 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth and smote him, I hid Me and was wroth; and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.
17 On account of sin for a little while I grieved him, and smote him, and turned away my face from him; and he was grieved, and he went on sorrowful in his ways.
17 Because of the iniquity of his avarice, I was angry, and I struck him down. I concealed my face from you, and I was angry. And he went astray by wandering in his heart.
18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him; I will lead him also, and requite with comforts him and his mourners.
18 I saw his ways, and I healed him, and I led him back again, and I restored consolations to him and to those who mourn for him.
18 I have seen her ways, and I have healed her and have comforted her, and I have given comfort to her and to her mourners.
19 Peace, peace, to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith YHWH that createth the fruit of the lips; and I will heal him.
19 peace upon peace to them that are far off, and to them that are nigh: and the Lord has said, I will heal them.
19 I created the fruit of the lips: peace, peace to him who is far away, and peace to him who is near, said the Lord, and I healed him.
20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it cannot rest, and its waters cast up mire and dirt.
20 But the unrighteous shall be tossed as troubled waves, and shall not be able to rest.
20 But the impious are like the raging sea, which is not able to be quieted, and its waves stir up dirt and mud.
21 There is no peace, saith my God concerning the wicked.
21 There is no joy to the ungodly, said God.
