Isaiah 52:1–15

M G S

Awake, awake, put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

Rise up, Rise up! Clothe yourself in strength, O Zion! Put on the garments of your glory, O Jerusalem, the city of the Holy One! For the uncircumcised and the unclean will no longer pass through you.

Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem; loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.

Shake off the dust and arise; sit down, Jerusalem: put off the band of thy neck, captive daughter of Sion.

Shake yourself from the dust! Arise and sit up, O Jerusalem! Loose the chains from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion!

For thus saith YHWH: Ye were sold for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.

For thus saith YHWH GOD: My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.

Thus saith the Lord, My people went down before to Egypt to sojourn there; and were carried away forcibly to the Assyrians.

For thus says the Lord God: My people descended into Egypt, in the beginning, in order to sojourn there. But the Assyrian oppressed them, without any cause at all.

Now therefore, what do I here, saith YHWH, seeing that My people is taken away for nought? They that rule over them do howl, saith the YHWH, and My name continually all the day is blasphemed.

And now why are ye here? Thus saith the Lord, Because my people was taken for nothing, wonder ye and howl. Thus saith the Lord, On account of you my name is continually blasphemed among the Gentiles.

And now, what is left for me here, says the Lord? For my people have been taken away without cause. Their lords treat them unjustly, says the Lord. And my name is being continually blasphemed all day long.

Therefore My people shall know My name; therefore they shall know in that day that I, even He that spoke, behold, here I am.

Therefore shall my people know my name in that day, for I am he that speaks: I am present,

Because of this, my people will know my name, in that day. For it is I myself who is speaking. Behold, I am here.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger of good tidings, that announceth peace, the harbinger of good tidings, that announceth salvation; that saith unto Zion: 'Thy God reigneth!'

as a season of beauty upon the mountains, as the feet of one preaching glad tidings of peace, as one preaching good news: for I will publish thy salvation, saying, O Sion, thy God shall reign.

Hark, thy watchmen! they lift up the voice, together do they sing; for they shall see, eye to eye, YHWH returning to Zion.

For the voice of them that guard thee is exalted, and with the voice together they shall rejoice: for eyes shall look to eyes, when the Lord shall have mercy upon Sion.

Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem; for YHWH hath comforted His people, He hath redeemed Jerusalem.

Let the waste places of Jerusalem break forth in joy together, because the Lord has had mercy upon her, and has delivered Jerusalem.

Be glad and rejoice together, O deserts of Jerusalem! For the Lord has consoled his people. He has redeemed Jerusalem.

10  YHWH hath made bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

10  And the Lord shall reveal his holy arm in the sight of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation that comes from our God.

10  The Lord has prepared his holy arm, in the sight of all the Gentiles. And all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.

11  Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, ye that bear the vessels of YHWH.

11  Depart, depart, get out of here! Do not be willing to touch what is polluted. Go out from her midst! Be cleansed, you who bear the vessels of the Lord.

12  For ye shall not go out in haste, neither shall ye go by flight; for YHWH will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rearward.

12  For you will not go out in a tumult, nor will you take flight in a hurry. For the Lord will precede you, and the God of Israel will gather you.

12  For you shall not go out with haste nor go by flight; for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will gather you together.

13  Behold, My servant shall prosper, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high.

14  According as many were appalled at thee--so marred was his visage unlike that of a man, and his form unlike that of the sons of men--

14  As many shall be amazed at thee, so shall thy face be without glory from men, and thy glory shall not be honoured by the sons of men.

14  Just as they were stupefied over you, so will his countenance be without glory among men, and his appearance, among the sons of men.

15  So shall he startle many nations, kings shall shut their mouths because of him; for that which had not been told them shall they see, and that which they had not heard shall they perceive.

15  Thus shall many nations wonder at him; and kings shall keep their mouths shut: for they to whom no report was brought concerning him, shall see; and they who have not heard, shall consider.

15  He will sprinkle many nations; kings will close their mouth because of him. And those to whom he was not described, have seen. And those who have not heard, have considered.
